The student is expected to attend every class, and will be held responsible for all work covered in the course. Students are expected to work every assigned problem as a minimum. Homework assignments may be collected. Failure to complete the assigned work will negatively affect class participation grade (see grading policy).

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: "Academic integrity is the pursuit of scholarly activity in an open, honest and responsible manner. Academic integrity is a basic guiding principle for all academic activity at Penn State, and all members of the University community are expected to act in accordance with this principle. Consistent with this expectation, the University's Code of Conduct states that all students should act with personal integrity, respect other students' dignity, rights and property, and help create and maintain an environment in which all can succeed through the fruits of their efforts. Academic integrity includes a commitment not to engage in or tolerate acts of falsification, misrepresentation or deception. Such acts of dishonesty violate the fundamental ethical principles of the University community and compromise the worth of work completed by others." (Senate Policy 49-20)

Grading Policy:

1. The grade will be determined by a comprehensive final exam (200 points), a laboratory grade (100 points), and a classwork grade (200 points) which includes homework, quizes, and class participation/attendence.

2. Grades will be determined approximately by the standard cutoffs (90% for an A, 80% for a B, ...). The actual cutoffs will be determined at the end of the semester.

3. Failure to take a scheduled exam will result in a grade of zero. Make-up exams will be given only in the event of illness (confirmed by a physician) or death in the immediate family.
